Re: auto pilot bushing removal FML
I'd just drill notches into the bushing to match the ends of the puller. Then spray the hell out of with a tetrafluoroethane spray (like air duster upside down) to freeze it and start pulling.

Its easier than holding the can upside down, that thing gets ice cold fast!

Re: auto pilot bushing removal FML
hahahaha Damn nice catch adam I didnt see that I meant can instead of car lol
Christ ill buy that can then and try it at this point im willing to try anything to get it out. What about the loc-tite when I use the tetrafluoroethane spray. The loc-tite wont matter right. Where can I get a can of that spray.

Re: auto pilot bushing removal FML
Autozone and other stores might have that Freeze Off brand with the picture of a frozen nut and bolt on the can or you can go to any Office Depot type store and get the canned air in the cleaning dept. Only difference between the two is the Freeze off can is designed to pull the contents from the bottom vs. canned air which pulls from the top. If you get canned air, flip it upside down so you see the fluid coming out in a mist. Make sure you stick your hand in it and get a chemical burn to make sure it's coming out cold Just unload into the opening until it starts dripping out, wait a second and hit it again and again. You want to see it start frosting up and not only be cold to the touch but the surrounding areas start chilling too. It's best chances of working is if you thoroughly freeze the entire bushing through so it condenses as much as it can. Then you and your sister start yanking the shit out of it. When that fails, impact hammer it out.

Hit it with liquid nitrogen and a sledgehammer now.

Re: auto pilot bushing removal FML
Hey Wally, I had the same problem with my car. My crank was out of an auto car, I wish I would have noticed the auto bushing before I had put the engine in the car. :damnit:
But I tried the toilet paper trick, greese trick, prying, soaking with pb blaster, hammering, biting, cussing, screaming, smoking, drinking, throwing tools across the garage and I still couldn't get that piece of shit asshole thing out (still pisses me off thinking about it).
I ended up using my angle grinder and pneumatic die grinder with cut off wheels. I cut the lip off the son of a bitch off until it was flush with the rest of the crankshaft. Took me all of 10 minutes after I had been messing with it for a couple days. Looks like you had to resort to the same method.

Re: auto pilot bushing removal FML
THATS ALL SHE WROTE GUYSDustin trust me I was swearing at this thing as well and throwing shit around lost a couple of tools in the process lol. Well looks like my method worked magic. I drilled straight through on the bottom with out hitting the crank I used a smaller drill bit for the remaining material closes to the crank. After that was done I tried hammering it again prying it yelling at it crying to it why dont you just come out lol. Then I decided to remove a little bit of material from the top of the bushing right across from the original cut and voila I used big vice grips to bend it and it came off there was A LOT!!!!! of red loc-tite behind it and around it. Also my dad helped me out to and managed to borrow the drill for me NO DRILL BITS WERE LOST Anyways here are some pics of the carnage now I can continue my swap yyaaayy!!! Dustin I had to copy the finger pic lol
