| Post subject: | problems....one after another!!!! |
so i bought a 98 gst a week ago from an old buddy of mine. the car hasnt been driven in almost 4 years now.... so i has a few problems. got the car home bought a new battery and put some gas in the car. and it took a few cranks but it started. it ran super rich and was drenching the plugs, so the car wouldnt rev. found that the coolant temp sensor was bad. changed that and i also changed to denso iridium plugs and the car started right up. revd up no problem but couldnt keep it running. now the car wont start. just cranks and cranks..... the car is getting spark but i still ordered magnacore wires and msd replacement coil. now im guessing it isnt getting fuel.... next is to check my pump. im also going to be change the fuel filter as well. if anyone has any input on what they make think the problem is please feel free to chime in. just trying to get the car running so i can take the car to get tuned! |

Does it have stock injectors? fuel pump? Do you have dsmlink or SAFC or some other type of engine management? And get rid of the iridiums and get some NGK BPR7ES |

well you said it had a maf-t in one of your other posts is it set properly for your setup meaning set to 450's with dsmlink or set to the proper sized injectors with a safc? |

belive me, listen to what people are telling you here. Go to an autoparts store or RRE and spend the 10bucks on the NGK BPR7ES plugs. Just because it worked on other cars doesn't mean it gonna work on this one. DSM's are REALLY picky. You have to learn on how to use the right combination of OEM and aftermarket parts. |

Don't just guess its not getting fuel, verify by removing the return line at the rail. If you are getting fuel and spark, then it would have something to do with the Power FC. I have limited experience with the apex unit so i don't have any comments about that in particular. You said you had a tuner, so im sure he can check that for your. |

Get rid of the irridiums, go back to copper. I don't care what he/she said they car "Made", right now it probably isnt making 150whp. Also GT30R isnt going to make 430whp on pump gas, you'll have to run leaded fuel to get aggressive enough on the tune to make that number. If the PowerFC is running in D'Jetro mode right now, make sure that the MAP sensor isn't dead. If its still on the stock MAF setup, make sure it unit isn't set to D'Jetro or vice versa. Power FC doesn't reset itself on battery power loss, so whatever settings that was put in should still be there. I got money on that the plugs are fouled out again. Sorry but when you foul out a set of plugs, then swap in now ones, its only a matter of time till the new ones are fouled out if the car was rich enough to kill the first set of plugs. Magical unobatnium plugs isn't going to fix the fact that your tune is off. I build and tune DSMs for a living and I do it for a well known shop that is probably top 3 in the world when it comes to building DSMs and if you call or ask anyone here at RRE, we'll all tell you to get rid of those plugs. If you aren't going to accept the info the people have to give, don't ask for it. I'm giving you cold hard info, like it or not from and un-biased point of view. I'm not getting anything out of helping you. The guy who sold you the car in the other hand, will sing you a love song and make you breakfast in bed so you'd buy it, he's got something to gain. Dump off a dead project and make some cash. |

just turn up the boost... thats why your running rich you need more boost. boost fixes everything. and if your "tuner" is this "know it all" why bother asking us, we dont know shit right? dont ask for help on a fourm and then try and tell us were wrong. those spark plugs you bought cost what $8 each? they are garbage, not worth the box they came in. NGK's are the best plug you can run, theres people making 600hp+ and they run the $2.50 ngk plug. |

Illeagale said in his post that he works for RRE. And Cosworth isn't even a DSM shop as they only support Evo's and don't make a damn thing for DSMs anymore since they moved on to where the money is. I've run super magical expensive plugs before in my GSX only to find that running high boost destroys them and they break up like crazy at the top end under boost while the bargain basement NGK's work just fine as long as I gap them right. |
