wadup guys

so my dsm has been down for a while now i had another thread up about thinking its one of my injectors going bad but that wasnt it. i finally pulled the codes for the cel and i had 2. its a 98 gst with a big 16g set up

the first is a p0300B and its random multiple misfire detected. i have always had this code being thrown since i bought the car so i didnt even think to check the codes and see what they are for. i know this isnt causing my problem. this is going to be fixed hopefully once i get an eprom ecu and dsm link and get a nice tune at road race engineering!

the second code is P0505-idle air control system. this is what i think is causing my problem of the cylinder going out and the car overheating and running like shit. I just need to know what it is that i need to change to fix this problem. is this a sensor or something i have to buy? or is it something i have to adjust? any help on that would be great

so what happend was one day i was driving and the cars temp started to raist to about 80 percent up and i quickly shut it off not wanting to damage anything or blowing the headgasket. i let it cool refilled with coolant or distilled water. drove again and it was running like shit and shaking and the temp gauge was going up again. ever since then it was parked in front of my house slowly trying to figure out what was wrong. its getting spark and fuel so i have no idea what would be causing this problem??



i also posted this same thread on tuners but no ones really giving any help so i tried here. i just need to get the car back up and running properly so i can go get it tuned at road race and upgarde to dsm link!

Have you checked the compression? Is it smoking at all? How hot did it get when it was overheating?

The idle air system code will not point to a problem that would cause 1 cylinder to stop getting fuel/spark. That is more likely than not your ISC motor which you can pull out and clean and hope it fixes that cel of just replace it. The overheating issue is defintely something else, your water pump might of seized up and not pump any coolant anywhere, or big pockets of air in the system, etc.

how did you pin point it to cylinder 1? Also the idle code just means that the ECU is trying to keep idle a 750 +/- 100rpm and it cant. If it is unable to keep idle within those ranges for an extended period of time, it will throw that code. The P0300 Random cylinder misfire will make the car feel like it drops a cylinder it'll start putt putting and hesitating.

you are correct on the fuel related issue. the spark for 1&4 are tied together. If you doont get spark in 1, you wont in 4, and vice versa. Fuel filter wont be the problem because if it was clogged enough to cause that, it will effect all 4 cylinders, not just one because it goes from the filter to the rail to all 4 injectors. Not an individual filter per injector. I would lean towards a circuit problem on that injector. The power for all the injectors come from the same source, and the ecu grounds the injector to open and close it. So get the problem to re-occur and while its doing that, take a electrical probe and test for power on one wire. Then get a multimeter and test for resistance between the other injector wire and pin1 on the ECU.

Also if this all checks out, do a compression test on that cylinder while its doing that. You can have a lifter pump up and hold a valve open enough that you'd get no compression.
